The second-hand marketplace Members Share Displeasure About Size Changes

Members of the platform have expressed outrage after an update resulted in items being listed as the wrong size.

This online marketplace has updated its measurement guidelines for women's and children's garments without notifying all shoppers about the modification.

Online Platforms Backlash

Countless users and merchants are expressing on platforms stating that platform listings now display an altered size classification than originally posted due to the recalibration.

The company said the revised method more closely matches other platforms.

The platform has recommended to check their listings and manually change the size where appropriate, which has left users frustrated.

Measurement Approach Updates

Before the change, the measurements included one number and one letter, such as S/8 or M/10.

The revised method features a letter and a range such as S/UK 8-10.

In some cases, the size labels have been reassigned - such as a large size was formerly size 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.

Member Stories

A fashion influencer, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".

"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.

Another user, based in Glasgow, explained products she uploaded with size 14 tags were displaying on the service as size 20–22.

"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they're going to be very disappointed," she explained.

Necessary Adjustments

Another shopper, based in Derby, said she had been left angered because the modification necessitated personal updates the measurements for "each individual item".

"This situation is especially annoying, as I'm chronically ill and platform income has been essential following partial earnings loss," she explained.

Platform Context

The app has more than 100 million members, including 18 million in the UK.

It has become a favored option to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.

This represents another occasion that an unexpected update within the service has received backlash: earlier, Vinted reversed a change regarding delivery choices following member complaints.
