The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category May Address This Issue

Each time a prominent prize-giving event draws close, one notices a demand to include fresh award types to recognize underappreciated efforts and fill the passions of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

A fellow writer has already made for a horror game category. It would be amazing. So would tabletop games, this being someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front since similar to blinkered fanatics, I possess a compelling case supporting my request is the most urgent and important of all. Here's the proposal: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and inevitably start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason film award organizations avoid this approach. But it is an unavoidable compromise in the world of gaming, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards currently feature classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these six categories successfully include numerous genres, allowing placement for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Consider three of outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: building puzzles in a particular game, intense tile-matching of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. Which classification works among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers released every year lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • One classic puzzle game received no recognition for anything that year
  • A different innovative game missed out in 2019
  • Well-received sorting experience received no acknowledgment that year
  • Only a few puzzle games barely qualified for niche award types

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent compact experiences, yet the craft of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games rank among most engaged experiences worldwide continuing this trend for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience rivals popular creative games for the title of highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, while interacting with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. One could readily select five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.

And to reiterate, these are games lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators operate at the challenging frontier game development, producing among the purest expressions of gaming itself. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait generations.
